Title: Sour Milk Doughnuts

1cRich sour milk
1/2tsBaking soda
1 Egg, well beaten
1cSugar
1/2tsSalt
1/2tsNutmeg
1tbMelted shortening

Sift flour, measure, and sift 1 cup with baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. Combine egg, sugar, shortening, sour milk, and dry ingredients. Add sufficient flour to make a soft roll dough. Chill dough. Turn onto lightly floured board. Roll in sheet 1/3 inch thick. Cut with floured cutter. Fry in deep fat (365 F) until brown. Drain on crumpled absorbent paper. Sprinkle with sugar.
